The first step towards changing a former care home in Ayr into 11 private homes has been given the go ahead.

Planning officers at South Ayrshire Council have approved in principle an application to convert the now-closed Rozelle Holm Farm Nursing Home.

Jab Property Developments Ltd have said they oplan to redevelop the site and old farm buildings, which date back to the 1830s, and return them to residential use.

The proposed site plan, submitted back in April, will see "11 high quality residential mews style cottage units" created at the site alongside car parking, gardens and amenity spaces.

A report on the application, prepared by a council planning officer, states: "Planning permission is sought for the change of use, and alteration of the former care home to form 11 dwellinghouses.

"The buildings within the site are to be altered by way of the removal of the existing conservatories, the interlinking corridor extension, and the shed/ storage building, with further alterations noted below.

"The removal of the aforementioned buildings does not require the benefit of planning permission and effectively creates three building groupings within the site.

"The majority (8) of the proposed residential properties are to be provided within the largest and courtyard shaped building, two properties in a semi-detached form are located in the north-eastern corner of the site, and a single detached dwellinghouse is proposed in the one and a half storey building within the site."
