Four young people from Ayrshire are set to take to the stage when the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS) comes to Ayr this week.
Tajinder Kaur from Symington, Niamh Milne from Saltcoats, Zach Mitchell from Kilwinning and Molly Gribbon from Stevenston will be taking to the stage with the NYOS Senior Orchestra at Ayr Town Hall on Friday, July 29.
The orchestra this year is configured as a chamber orchestra, providing opportunities for solo playing and a more intimate, conversational style of music-making.
The senior orchestra is joined by award-winning Scottish accordionist Ryan Corbett in Trojan’s fantastical concerto for accordion and orchestra, Fairy Tales.
Ryan Corbett said: “I’m very excited to play Vaclav Trojan’s Fairy Tales with NYOS Senior Orchestra.
“Trojan is known for composing the soundtrack for animated fairy tales by Jiří Trnka, and this concerto is comprised of seven movements – each describing characters and scenes from fairy tales.
“The vivid images and enchanting melodies make this piece a joy to play, and I hope that the members of the orchestra feel the same way.”
The concert ends with what is known as Mendelssohn’s ‘Scottish’ symphony for its evocation of the wild Romantic landscapes he encountered on his walking tour of Scotland in 1829.
The orchestra is conducted by Jamie Phillips, associate conductor of the world-famous Halle Orchestra.
Tickets from as little as £6 for those aged under 26. Full price, £16, concessions are just £10.
