A KIND-HEARTED group of youngsters and their mums have raised more than £1,500 by going on a massive adventure walk.

The ‘Mums and Chums’ group took on the challenge close to Bellsbank to raise money for their group, local church, and Robin House Children’s Hospice, where the son of one of the members is being cared for.

To make the achievement even more incredible, most of the children in the group are between the ages of one and two.

At the last count, £1,800 had been raised, with £1,200 of that going towards Robin House, run by the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) charity.

Bobbie Spiers’ son is currently being cared for at Robin House, and it was Bobbie who was one of the brains behind the idea.

She admitted the support, effort and outcome of the idea, and the fundraising, has been overwhelming.

Bobbie said: “I can’t even say how much it means that money has been raised for Robin House.

“Robin House has been there for my family for years now. And supported my son and family every step of the way through the pandemic when we needed them most.

“It makes me extremely proud as a mother that this group of mums and young children came together to raise such an amazing amount for their group, church and also Robin House.

“It is honestly heart-warming with a few tears being shed with our success.”

Bobbie continued: “The support we received from local businesses was fantastic. Morrisons supermarket and Rangers Football Club also supported us.

“Lorraine Fawcett who is one of the mums from the group was the driving force behind the raffle and the prizes being donated.

“I would like to give a big thanks to all the businesses, big and small who donated to our cause.

“Also to the mums who rallied up the sponsors and to the little legs who completed the walk. They all have been fantastic and done a remarkable job.

“I would also like to give a special thanks to Jean Barclay, the lady behind it all. She opens the church doors every Tuesday in Bellsbank for the Mums and Chums group and brings a real sense of community.

“I’m very grateful for the work Jean puts in and I say this on behalf of all the mums and children from the group.”
