South Ayrshire residents will now have to make advanced bookings before disposing of their household waste at council sites.
The plan, which came into force today (July 4) means that those living in the council area will have to register for an E-permit, which lasts 24-months, before booking.
To book an available slot, residents will have to provide proof of their South Ayrshire address, their vehicle registration, and council tax reference numbers.
Previously, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Buildings, Housing and Environment, Cllr Martin Kilbride, said: "Our household waste recycling centres play an important part in our community, allowing residents to dispose of waste and recyclables responsibly.
"I'm therefore delighted that we are able to implement a fairer process for our residents who wish to access the centres.
"We've been working hard behind the scenes to make sure the new online booking system is user friendly and will allow residents to book suitable appointment times with ease."
Those wanting to register and book a slot can do so online or call 0300 123 0900 if they lack internet access.
