PUPILS at an Ayr primary school have received a special visit from Road Safety Scotland's mascot reminding them to 'go safe' during the summer holidays.

Pupils at Kincaidston Primary were treated to a special visit from Ziggy after the school won a competition prize.

The ongoing ‘Go Safe with Ziggy’ campaign helps equip children and parents with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will help keep children safe on our roads now and when they get older.

Ayr Advertiser:

Ziggy joined children and teachers at Kincaidston for playtime before settling down for a storytelling session with ‘Ziggy’s Sunny Holiday’, one of seven books available for ELCs and Primary 1 classes to order for free.

Kerri Houston from Kincaidston Primary said: "Having Ziggy visit us in school was just brilliant and a great way to reinforce the road safety messages we’ve been teaching our children in class.

"We’ll enjoy reading the Ziggy stories together even more after today’s special visit.”

Ayr Advertiser:

Michael McDonnell, Road Safety Scotland director, also commented on the campaign saying, "It is important that children are immersed in positive road safety attitudes from a young age, both in the classroom and at home.

"We know that early experiences shape children’s future behaviour, reiterating the importance of practising and teaching safe road habits.

"Ziggy is a fun character with an important role and visits like these will help put invaluable skills into practice and create lasting memories."

Pupils at Kincaidston, and all South Ayrshire's primary schools, finish up for the summer holiday on Wednesday, June 29.

The Go Safe with Ziggy books are freely available to all early learning and childcare centres and Primary 1 classes in Scotland, and parents and teachers have access to online resources and activity ideas.

Books can be ordered on roadsafety.scot/ziggy-order.
