A MAN who attempted to climb into a gritter truck in Coylton after injuring his girlfriend in a savage attack is behind bars while he awaits punishment.

Allan Alexander, 37, admitted assaulting the woman to her injury as well as behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in Coylton and Drongan.

Alexander appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week in connection with an incident which happened in the early days of 2021.

The prosecution indictment states that Alexander punched his victim on the head, seized her on the hair and headbutted her on January 13 last year.

He also uttered menacing and threatening remarks, as well as repeatedly punching and kicking her motor vehicle.

The offences were committed during a journey between Drongan and Coalhall, on the A70 towards Coylton, on the B742 near Coylton and at the Meadowbank depot on Annbank Road.

The indictment states that Alexander’s offences were aggravated because they involved abuse of a partner or former partner.

Alexander also shouted, swore, and attempted to enter a gritter truck.

He repeatedly struck a door there, before picking up a brick and striking it against a window grille – as well as uttering threats of violence and kicking barriers.

He also admitted making abusive remarks and threats to police officers as well as repeatedly kicking a cell within a police vehicle.

Alexander committed the offences while he was the subject of bail orders granted at Ayr Sheriff Court on May 12 and November 23, 2020.

When he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday, June 7, sentencing was deferred until a later date and Alexander, of Crawford Drive, Drongan, was returned to custody.
