A SEX offender told cops he had a weapon in a wooded area – after previously avoiding jail for abusing a teenage girl.

Connar Templeton, 26, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and resisting arrest when he appeared after a warrant at Ayr Sheriff Court last week [Tuesday, June 7].

A not guilty plea to an allegation of assault was accepted by prosecutors.

Templeton, now of Nessglen Road, Dalmellington, admitted repeatedly shouting and swearing while acting in an aggressive manner to police officers while at the wooded area to the rear of an address in Keir Hardie Hill, Cumnock.

The complaint states he also claimed he had a weapon and made threatening gestures towards cops.

He also admitted repeatedly struggling with two officers – with both offences committed while on bail.

Templeton’s case was adjourned for criminal justice social work reports and bail was granted under standard conditions.

He will return for sentencing at a later date.

Templeton was previously found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl, then aged 13, after a trial at Ayr Sheriff Court last year [Wednesday, May 5].

He was found to have sexually assaulted the girl after making sexual remarks to her.

He then placed his hand inside her lower clothing and touched her body on January 24, 2020.

He was given a two-year community payback order but avoided having to carry out any unpaid work.

He was made the subject of a five-year sexual offences prevention order and told he will have to register as a sex offender until 2026.

The victim’s sister paid tribute to the girl’s courage after bravely reporting the incident then taking the stand.

She said: “He’s a vile, arrogant, sick, twisted individual and shown absolutely no remorse. My little sister is more relieved than anything, but she’s nervous about having to bump into him.”
