AFTER TWO years of little competition and restricted training, skaters from the Ayrshire Flyers Speed Skating club had their opportunity to show what they can do at the British Championships in Nottingham.

Having gone so long without competing, skaters were unsure of how they would perform in the national field – though they need not worry as results showed.

Top performer in the competition was Chloe Cameron who dominated her category winning the Junior Women and taking home her fourth British title.

Anna Reid also took home a medal after finishing third in the Junior C Girls category. This was Anna’s first podium at this level and she achieved two personal best (PB) times in the process.

Jennifer Hull finished fifth in the Junior C Girls and secured three PB’s along the way.

In the Junior C Boys, Tai Bao came fourth and also achieved three PB’s, a remarkable achievement given that this is Tao’s first season in the sport!

In the Junior E Combined, where girls and boys under 10yrs compete together, Isla Rousseau produced her best ever skate to take fifth and achieve three PB times.

The club had seven other skaters who qualified for the championship but due to injury or illness could not compete. This included their very own Olympian Kat Thomson.

Overall, it was a very satisfying championship for the Flyers.
