AYRSHIRE households that have not completed their census are being urged to do so before the final deadline tomorrow.

Every household has a legal responsibility to complete the form or risk prosecution and a £1,000 fine.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) has confirmed the closure of its public awareness campaign and census collection field times on May 31.

NRS chief executive, Paul Lowe, said: “My message to those who have yet to complete it is: don’t miss out. Don’t regret not taking part.

"Big decisions about our local communities and our nation as a whole are based on census data.

"Everyone’s circumstances need to be captured to ensure the best decisions are taken, so please complete now.”

As of last week, more than 85 per cent of households across the country had completed their returns, which will be used to plan future public services.

The Scottish census 2022 only takes a few minutes to fill out. Questions cover a range of topics including the type of accommodation you live in, household relationships, people’s age, health and jobs.
