An air ambulance has been called in to deal with an incident near the Kyle Academy in Ayr this afternoon.

However, a source has told the Advertiser that the incident is not related to any pupil or staff at the school.

The source said that the helicopter pilot landed the chopper at the school as it was the most suitable location.

It's thought that the air ambulance was assisting with a rescue of somebody who had fallen into the nearby River Ayr.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Holmston Road, Ayr, around 1.30pm on Thursday, 5 May, to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service with a medical emergency.

The air ambulance have been contacted for more information.
