Maybole's new multi-million-pound bypass is set to be closed for two nights next week.

The overnight closures on May 9 and May 10 will facilitate the safe installation of Variable Message Signs (VMS) adjacent to the road on the £29 million project.

The northbound and southbound carriageways will be closed on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10, closing at 8pm each night and reopening at 6am the following morning.

Having officially opened in January, signs on the new road were sending heavy goods vehicles down a single-track road.

Transport Scotland then confirmed that the signs would be adjusted, which will now take place next week.

Signed diversions will be in place throughout.

For northbound road users the diversion route will be A719 Turnberry – B7023 Culzean Road – B77 N/B – END.

For southbound road users the diversion route will be A77 – Doonholm Road – Murdochs Loan – Alloway Road – Greenfield Avenue – A719 Dunure Road – B7023 Culzean Road – B77 Maybole – END.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "We also make use of the signs to warn drivers of future events that may cause delay and when not in use, they are a valuable tool to promote and support road safety, network operation and other related campaigns.

"Please plan your journey in advance and check traffic information on the Traffic Scotland website.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank road users in advance for their cooperation."
