Rail commuters in Ayrshire are in for a frustrating journey this morning as signalling issues have caused trains in the area to be severely disrupted.

The issue at Paisley Gilmour Street was revealed by ScotRail around 10.30am this morning.

The disruption is expected to last until 1pm.

Services on the Ayr, Ardrossan and Largs lines are being affected as well as those to and from Inverclyde.

Customers travelling to and from Ayr are being advised to travel via Kilmarnock, and bus replacement services are operating at many locations.

A statement on the National Rail website reads: "A fault with the signalling system at Paisley Gilmour Street is causing disruption to journeys through this station. Trains may be delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

"Disruption is expected until 13:00."

Scotrail have since tweeted to say that the problem has been fixed but that some disruption will be expected until trains and crew are back in position.
