A group of iconic British fighter jets is heading to Prestwick today as part of a farewell tour.

The Hawk jets of the Royal Navy Air Base (RNAB) Culdrose, in Helston, Cornwall will set out from their base in the south-west of England before heading to the west coast of Scotland today, according to the Royal Navy.

The Navy says the Hawks have played a significant role in defence for 40 years, enabling training of their ships in the event of an air attack.

The Hawks act as hostile aircraft or incoming missiles to prepare the Navy for such events.

Four jets from 736 Naval Air Squadron will fly from Cornwall to Prestwick on Thursday, and will leave on Friday morning, as part of the tour.

Here are the timings for when you can expect to see them in the skies around Prestwick:

Thursday, March 17: Depart Culdrose at 3.30pm, flypasts at Plymouth 3.40pm; RNAS Yeovilton 3.55pm; Bournemouth Airport 4.05pm, Portsmouth 4.15pm and arriving at Prestwick shortly after 5pm.
