Two members of Jedi Bowling Ayr have been selected for the Scotland squad to compete at the upcoming European Youth Championships.

Sarah Scott and Isla Claxton are both members of Jedi Bowling which is a youth tenpin bowling team who bowl out of L A Bowl, Ayr.

Jedi Bowling Head Coach James Claxton revealed the two youngsters have been bowling since they were just three years old.

He said: “The two of them met at nursery at the age of three and have bowled since then.

“It has been a lifelong friendship between the pair and they have been attending the club since the age of five years old.

“They then played in their first competition at the age of five as well.”

The duo have used their early start to their advantage and are already in a commanding position in the ten pin bowling world at such a young age.

Sarah is aged 10, whilst Isla is aged 11 and despite their youth Claxton says they are living proof that is you are good enough you are old enough.

He continued: “At the moment, Isla is ranked number one in the whole of Scotland for under 12’s and number three for under 16’s.

“I think the pair of them are the youngest ever girls to participate for Scotland at the European Championships, so it is quite an achievement for them.”

The competition was scheduled to take place in April however it was postponed until September.

The girls will be travelling out to Wittelsheim in France to represent Scotland for a fortnight against the best in Europe.

However, this trip will not come cheap with the pair needing to not only get themselves there but also all their equipment to France as well.

Claxton says the duo are welcoming any donations from the public to help fund their trip and make these girls dreams come true.

He said: “Unfortunately, Scottish ten pin bowling is not funded by the government and we have hotels and flights that need to be paid for which is going to amount to £1,500 each.

“So, we have a GoFundMe page set up for both Isla and Sarah if people wish to donate or you can hand in any donations in person to the reception at LA Bowl.”
