A new walk-through Covid testing centre has opened in Ayr this week.

The new testing facility, at the car park on Castlehill Road, will make it easier for people in the area who don't have a vehicle to get tested for Covid.

It's open to people with and without symptoms of the disease.

Public health minister Maree Todd MSP said: "This walk-through testing centre at Castlehill Road car park in Ayr provides testing options for people with and without Covid-19 symptoms.

"There are now 60 walk-through sites, eight drive through sites and 42 mobile units across Scotland.

"The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring people can easily access a test no matter where they are in the country, and we will continue to work with the UK Government and local partners to ensure access to testing.

"As restrictions ease, continuing to test is key to protecting the people around you and the progress we’ve made so far. If you have symptoms, you must book a test at NHS inform or by calling 119.

"While the latest evidence suggests vaccines provide a high level of protection against the effects of Covid-19, they don’t yet provide a guarantee that you can’t still get the virus or pass it on to others.

"Those who do not have symptoms should continue to test regularly using lateral flow devices, which are available for collection at these walk-through sites."

Rememer it is important to get yourself tested if you are suffering from any of the common symptoms associated with Covid, a high temparature or fever, a new continuous cough or the loss of taste and/or smell.

People with symptoms should book a test at nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or call 0800 028 2816 if they are unable to access the online service.

Each local test site has a daily capacity of 300 tests.
