Motorists in Ayrshire are being warned that the busy Dutch House roundabout will be closed this weekend for maintenance work.

The A77 will be closed north and southbound either side of the roundabout while Amey engineers are at work on the £127,000 project, which the firm says will benefit around 8,796 vehicles using this route each day.

The road will be closed from 8pm on Friday, January 14 and will reopen at 6am on Monday, January 17 for carriageway improvements.

The A77 southbound will be closed after Symington, the A77 northbound will be closed from Sandyford Toll, and the A78 will be closed in both directions between Monktonhead Roundabout and Dutch House Roundabout. 

During construction, signed diversion routes will be in operation as follows: 

A77 southbound traffic will be diverted at Bellfield Interchange to join the A76 and then onto the A719. From here, traffic will re-join the A77 in a southerly direction via Sandyford Toll. Local traffic intending to travel towards Kilmarnock or Irvine will be diverted at Junction 8 from the A77 onto Glasgow Road and Western Road.

A77 northbound traffic will be diverted at Sandyford Toll to join the A719 and then the B730. Traffic will be able to re-join the A77 in at northerly direction at Bogend Toll. Traffic intending to travel on the A78 will be diverted onto the B7038 via Riccarton.

A78 southbound traffic intending to join the A77 will be diverted at Warrix Interchange to follow the A71, Hurlford Road. At Bellfield Interchange, traffic will join the A76 and will then join the A719 to Sandyford Toll to join the A77 carriageway. Local traffic intending to travel to Prestwick or Irvine via the A78 will be able to do so as normal.

Local access will be maintained for Symington and Hansel Village from the A77. Hansel Village residents will be escorted through the works via the A77 southbound.  

Access to the BP Monkton, Premier Inn, Brewers Fayre Restaurant, and Caravan Park will be available via Kilmarnock Road at Monkton.  

Glasgow Prestwick Airport will remain accessible throughout from the north via the A78 at Monktonhead Roundabout, and from the south via the A79 from Prestwick.
