Big-hearted pupils at Southcraig School in Ayr really rose to the challenge when a local charity asked them to make Christmas cards for elderly people.

Youngsters in every class at the school in Belmont Avenue happily got out their paints and glitter to create 130 unique greetings cards guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of older people in the area who are facing Christmas on their own.

The cards will take pride of place inside goody bags packed full of festive treats which will be delivered to homes all over South Ayrshire by volunteers on Christmas Day.

The deliveries take place every year on December 25 and are organised by Voluntary Action South Ayrshire’s (VASA) Christmas Companions.

VASA chief officer Marie Oliver said: “I know these wonderful cards from the pupils at Southcraig School will be treasured by everyone who receives one.”

Some of the pupils can be seen pictured on the right with the cards they created.
