Rotary Club members in Ayr have erected a special Christmas tree at Fish Cross, on which the public can write a message on a yellow ribbon on the tree in return for a small donation to charity.
The club’s members took inspiration for the initiative from a similar project that has been run in the city of Cork in the Irish Republic for the past 19 years.
The Cork tree raised almost 100,000 euros in the last year before the Covid pandemic.
A spokesperson for the group said: “We are really excited about our latest project, a Tree of Remembrance.
“A Christmas tree will be erected at the Fish Cross, Ayr High Street and the public invited to write a short message on a yellow ribbon, remembering a loved one at this special time of year.
“A small donation can be made for local cancer charities.”
