AYR based archery and football clubs have received generous donations from a Glasgow-based homebuilder. are now able to welcome more people from across the area to take part in the sport, thanks to £1500 in donations from family housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel.

Mactaggart & Mickel, who have just launched new homes at Doonfoot, have made donations to 13 key community organisations from across Scotland, with the two clubs in Ayrshire selected to receive a financial boost.

Ayrshire Archery Club has been awarded £500 which will be used to fund two new coaches to deliver the courses, as well as buy equipment that will make the sport more accessible, including bows suitable for wheelchair users.

Whitletts Victoria Development Club has been awarded £1000, helping them create a brand new team for the new Lowland Development League offering opportunities for young men under 20 to continue playing football after boys club level and helping them make a bridge to amateur and semi-professional level.

Helen Cresswell, speaking on behalf of the Ayrshire Archery Club, said: “More up to date and suitable equipment is imperative to allow us to be as inclusive as possible.

“This donation will help us provide more opportunities for the community to come and try archery.”

“We have a new trainee coach ready to get started on their training and the new equipment will help novices, children and low-income participants take part. We are also ordering a new bow with a light draw weight, shorter arrows, and archery and bow accessories aimed specifically for beginners.

Whitletts Victoria’s Gavin Brown added: “Whitletts Victoria Development Club are delighted to have the support of Mactaggart & Mickel in its debut season in the Lowland Development League. This magnificent support will be of great benefit as we build this programme, creating long term benefits for young men in Ayr North.

“Not only it is pivotal in helping maintain health and fitness, but it also reduces isolation and supports positive mental health.”
