A 55-year-old was arrested after allegedly being aggressive towards emergency service staff who were trying to put out a fire in Wallacetown earlier this week.

On Wenesday afternoon around 1.50pm a fire broke out in a bin store on the ground floor of Argyle Park flats in the area.

Residents of the building fled their homes until the fire service brought it under control and residents from surrounding properties were also evacuated due to the high level of smoke swirling around the estate.

One member of the public allegedly became aggressive towards those working to put out the fire and was subsequently arrested by police.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a fire at Argyle Park, Ayr, being dealt with by the fire service around 2.30pm on Wednesday, 1 December.

"We received a further call from the fire service claiming a man was allegedly being aggressive towards them.

"Officers attended and a 55-year-old man was arrested and charged. He was released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date."
