Parking fees in Ayr will be abolished throughout the month of December, the council has announced.

South Ayrshire Council, in collaboration with the Ayrshire Roads Alliance, have announced that visitors to the town will not have to pay for parking their vehicles in all on-street pay and display parking bays and in the following car parks - Barns Crescent; Charlotte Street; Kyle Street.

However, maximum stay limits will still apply.

The move is designed to attract more shoppers to the town during the festive period.

Councillor Ian Cochrane, Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “Supporting local businesses is a big priority, and the free parking will be a welcome boost for retailers who have struggled of late.

“We want to attract people back into the town centre, but I would still encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport wherever possible.

“I would also ask that drivers comply with any length of stay restrictions, as it’s important that we continue to encourage parking space turnover.

“Finally, please remember to follow the latest Covid-19 advice, while you are out and about over the festive season.”
