A KIND-HEARTED store owner has provided a Prestwick dad with a gift that could change his life.

Robert Frew from Mobility Matters has gifted Stephen Girvan with a specialised bed that will help him get the good night’s sleep he has been after.

We told earlier this month how Stephen had been on the lookout for a special hospital bed to help him sleep, improve his health, and be reunited with his son.

After reading the story, Robert was determined to help Stephen out, as the dad from Prestwick had been a customer at the Mobility Matters store in the past.

Luckily for Stephen, Robert had the perfect solution locked away in his store room. Along with wife, Nan, Robert was only too happy to help out.

Robert said: “When I saw the story about Stephen I just knew I wanted to help out.

“I had a bed in my Irvine store that I knew would be perfect for him, because I knew what kind of support he needed.

“Having helped Stephen get a chair from us in the past, I know how kind he is and how much he genuinely wants to get better to see his son and better his life.

“These beds can be about £5,000 but when I saw his story I knew this bed could make a difference.

“It takes about three or four people to lift it, so it’s some operation to get the bed to him.

“I’m sure once it’s in and he can get a good night’s sleep then I’m sure it will do him a world of good.”

The bed was delivered to Stephen last Friday (October 22), and he can already tell the difference.

Stephen said: “The bed’s in, and it’s amazing.

“It rises up and down so I can get in at a decent height. And now I can get out without struggling.

“My friend is coming over to fix the bedding and I need to go buy distilled water for my machine.

“It also reclines up so there is less chance I stop breathing. And it’s comfortable.

“My house is upside down at moment but with a little help from my friend I’ll get there.

“I’ll need to go buy Robert a gift for his kindness in the run up to Christmas I’ll pop in with something.”

Stephen is hopeful that by getting the bed and improving his health, it won’t be long before he can have his son, Cameron, round on a regular basis.
