The good people of Ayr have come to their neighbours' aid by starting a fundraiser for those who have been affected by the explosion last night.

The blast damaged four houses in Gorse Park, in the Kincaidston area, around 7.10pm yesterday.

Four people, two adults and two children were hospitalised as a result.

Others in the area were told to evacuate their properties as a precaution and rest centres have been set up to house those currently without homes.

The blast was heard by residents miles away.

Social media was awash with people and businesses offering spare rooms, food and drinks.

And now, an anonymous business owner in the area has started a Justgiving page to help raise money for those affected.

The generous person posted on their Justgiving page: "Following the explosion residents have been displaced, properties have been damaged and families need urgent practical and emotional support.

"I am a local business owner and also run a CIC focused on mental wellbeing. One of our team members lives in the estate with her family and their, and many other families', homes have been substantially damaged by the blast.

"Practical and emotional support will be paramount at this point for everyone affected."

The target amount is £5,000 and £1,190 had already been raised at the time of writing.
