St John’s Tower has a new sign thanks to community funding from Arnold Clark.

The Friends of St John’s Tower (FrOST), who are a group working to preserve and restore the work at St John’s Tower, found out recently that BT would stop hosting free community websites.

This meant that a new website would need to be created for St John’s Tower, as well as meaning that the signage for their old website would become redundant.

Thankfully, the Arnold Clark Community Fund came to the rescue, providing funds to help pay for new signage and a website domain name.

FrOST Treasurer, Yolanda McCall said: “We rely on brochure sales and visitor donations to pay for any enhancements, but the cost of a new sign was going to use up all our funds.

“I heard about the Arnold Clark Community Fund, applied, and was delighted to be successful. Our new sign has now been installed. It tells visitors about our website with the virtual tour at www.stjohnstower.com.”

FrOST Chairman, Sandy Paterson added: “The FrOST group was established in 2001 with a mission to work in partnership with South Ayrshire Council to preserve and improve the features of St John’s Tower and its grounds for future generations.”

The Tower of St John the Baptist is the remaining bell tower from Ayr’s 12th century parish church, and it is Ayr’s oldest building.
