A man was pronounced dead at Ayr train station last night after his body was discovered on the tracks.

Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) attended at the scene shortly after 11pm last night (October 11) and found the man's body.

Paramedics, also in attendance, assessed the man's state, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious.

Trains on the Ayr and Kilwinning line were cancelled last night as a result of the incident.

A spokesperson from the BTP said: "British Transport Police were called to Ayr railway station at 11.02pm yesterday (11 October) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal."
