Building work has begun on transforming changing provision at a popular South Ayrshire park.

South Ayrshire Council is investing £1.36million to improve the pavilion at King George V Playing Fields in Ayr.

They hope to modernise and improve matchday facilities for the teams who currently use the grounds.

Work will be undertaken to extend the existing pavilion, to create more space and a brand-new entrance will be built, creating a fully accessible facility, so that nobody is excluded from using the pavilion.

The pavilion is used by sports teams who change in and out of sportswear there before and after activities.

The renovations, which are due to be complete early next year, will also see the addition of eight new, large changing areas, two of which will now be dedicated for referees.

And the building will be self-sufficient in some respects, thanks to the installation of brand new solar panels, meaning the building will also generate its own electricity in future.

Councillor Ian Cochrane, Environment Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “I am delighted this project is underway.

“The playing fields are very popular, so the new pavilion will make a huge difference, particularly on match days.”

He continued: “With the health and well being of residents more important than ever before, we continue to invest in facilities which encourage sport and exercise.”
