Ayr United are in trouble with the SPFL after fielding two ineligible players against Rangers B on Tuesday night.

They have been charged with breaching SPFL Rules and Regulations and the SPFL has arranged a disciplinary hearing for next week where the club will learn its punishment.

The two sides met in the SPFL Trust Trophy second-round, with Ayr coming out on top 3-0.

However, substitutions made in the 81st minute of the game have landed the Honest Men in hot water.

Teenagers Kinlay Bilham and Alex Jeanes were brought on for their competitive first team debuts towards the end of the match, but the pair are currently supposed to be on loan to other West of Scotland League lubs and so should not have been playing.

Bilham is on loan at Irvine Meadow and Jeanes is currently loaned to Girvan.

A statement issued by the SPFL earlier today read: "Ayr United have confirmed to the SPFL that they included Kinlay Bilham and Alex Jeanes in Tuesday’s SPFL Trust Trophy second-round tie against Rangers B at the C&G Systems Stadium when they were on temporary transfers to West of Scotland League clubs Irvine Meadow XI and Girvan respectively.

"Both players entered the field as 81st-minute substitutes in a match Ayr United won 3-0.

"As a result, Ayr United have been charged with breaching SPFL Rules and Regulations and the SPFL has arranged a disciplinary hearing for Monday, September 20."
