TWO young baton twirlers from Ayr are delighted after winning recognition at national level.

Amy Dawe, 13 and Abi Ward Rodger, 11, both attended the the Scotland Squad Auditions hosted by TwirlSport Scotland in Edinburgh last month.

As a result, Amy has been selected as an athlete to be a member of Team Scotland to represent Scotland at the European Baton Twirling Championships which will be held in France in 2023 at Le Vendéspace.

Abi was successful in gaining a position on the Development Squad which is made up of athletes who show great future potential in the sport of Baton Twirling.

Being part of this squad allows young talent from across Scotland to work together with national and international coaches to give them an opportunity to represent Scotland at International Baton Twirling Championships across the World.

Both girls attend A.M. Twirlers, a dance school based in Prestwick and Mossblown. And their coaches, Lisa Alcroft, Caitlin McGill and Liz Alcroft are delighted with their success.

Amy has been twirling since she was three years old and Abi since she was four.

Coach Lisa said: “All of us from A.M. Twirlers are extremely proud of the girls and their achievements. They continue to work hard and it is fantastic that their talent is being recognised. We will continue to support them to reach their goals.”

Amy’s mum Joyce said: “Amy’s friends and family are overwhelmed with pride.

“It was very emotional for us all when Amy received the news that she had successfully auditioned and got a place on the Scottish European team.”

Abi’s mum Kimberleigh added: “I am extremely proud of Abi and all her hard work and dedication she puts in to the sport of baton twirling.

“She puts her all in to it and look at the achievement she has made. We as a family couldn’t be any more proud of her.”

Amy says she is proud to be representing Scotland and will be aiming to work really hard to do well as part of the team at the championships in France 2023.

Abi says she is proud of what she has achieved in the sport so far.

She now feels confident in herself and can’t wait to see what happens in the future.
