Commuters could be set for delays to train services between Ayr and Stranraer/Girvan after a vehicle collided with a railway bridge between Ayr and Maybole.

Scotrail confirmed the news just before midday today.

A ScotRail spokesperson tweeted: "We've got bridge examination staff on site making an initial assessment of the extent of the damage to the bridge.

"Once we have more information from our staff on the ground, well provide you with an update."

The condition of the driver is not yet known any updates will be posted here as and when we get them.

The vehicle collided with a bridge in the Belmont area ScotRail have confirmed.

They now say that all services should be back to normal fairly soon.
