Platform one at Troon station reopened this morning meaning normal service has resumed for the first time since the station set alight almost two weeks ago.

Platform two opened up earlier on Monday and passengers travelling south were able to use the station again.

Platform one, which suffered more damage as a result of the blaze, was not quite ready and so those travelling north had to find alternative routes until this morning.

Network Rail engineers have put in place special supports for beams over the tracks which overhead line equipment is attached to. New overhead power cables have also been installed.

David Simpson, ScotRail’s Operations Director, said: “We are delighted to be able to reopen both platforms at Troon after the fire that destroyed so many of the station buildings forced Network Rail to close the line.

“We’re sure passengers understand how difficult it’s been to restore services given the extreme circumstances of what happened.

“It’s been a real team effort by Scotland’s Railway to get trains running normally again between Glasgow and Ayr less than two weeks after the blaze.”

Temporary toilets, including one for accessible use, are available for customers.

Customers must buy their ticket online before boarding the train as there is no working ticket machines onsite.
