A man who was convicted of killing a bodybuilder earlier this year has died, cops have confirmed.

Marius Bauba, 28, was an inmate at HMP Shotts after he knifed Morgan Dunn, 34, from Stevenston, at a house in Ayr’s Marigold Square last year.

He was serving an almost 10-year jail term after being sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow in January.

The former Prestwick Academy pupil was pronounced dead on Saturday, July 24.

The stricken dad-of-one was discovered at HMP Shotts and was transferred to Whishaw General Hospital, but doctors could not save him.

It's not known what caused his death, but police have said they are not treating it as suspicious.

Bauba went on the run after murdering Dunn, changing the colour of his hair and checking into hotels in Dumfries, Gretna and Carlisle under different names.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of the sudden death of a 28-year-old man at Wishaw General Hospital shortly before 8pm on Saturday, July 24.

“The man had been taken to hospital from HMP Shotts a short time earlier.

“His death is currently being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
