Troon railway station will partially reopen tomorrow, just over a week after it went up in flames.

The Glasgow Central to Ayr service is expected to operate as normal following repairs, stopping southbound at platform two.

However, the northbound platform at Troon, will not be open until Friday, July 30.

Those travelling to Glasgow will have to go to Prestwick Town to connect with northbound services, ScotRail have said.

Network Rail has fully assessed the damage to the buildings, platform canopies, overhead power cables and other infrastructure, say the train company.

Special supports have been designed and installed on platform two which enabled track-level repairs to be carried out, and similar props on platform one are supporting the beams over the tracks which overhead line equipment is attached to. New overhead power cables have also been installed.

ScotRail is advising customers to check their journey before they travel, buy their ticket before boarding the train and consult the train operator’s social media channels for up to date information.

David Simpson, ScotRail’s Operations Director, said: “We regret any disruption to services because we know how it will inconvenience our customers.

“However, the dreadful fire at Troon station left our colleagues at Network Rail with no option but to close the line, and we had to revise our services accordingly.

“It’s great to see that less than a week after the fire, the line has reopened and we are able to resume services from Glasgow to Ayr on Monday, with a full timetable expected to be operating on Friday, 30 July.”

ScotRail’s Glasgow Central to Ayr services and services between Ayr and Stranraer, which were also affected by the disruption caused by the fire, resumed on Friday, July 23.

A shuttle bus service served Troon between Irvine/Kilmarnock and Prestwick Town on Saturday, July 24.

Due to continuing strike action by RMT union members there will be a reduced service between Glasgow and Ayr today,  in line with previous strike days and Troon will not be served by rail replacement.
