During lockdown, the price of new pets has boomed, with some breeders charging thousands of pounds for a furry friend.

Right here in Ayrshire, our very own SSPCA centre has a range of lovely pets, of all shapes and sizes, looking for a human to come and give them the love and attention they deserve.

Here are the nine pets in the centre looking for a new home.

Xena

Xena is a gorgeous black/brindle lurcher. She has a very high energy personality and loves nothing more than to run about.

She is around 10/11 months old and has only recently been taken in by the centre. Xena may be able to live with other dogs and children, but she wouldn't be able to go to a home with cats.

Xena would be best placed in a home where her new owner(s) can take her on long walks and burn out her tireless energy.

Can you give Xena her forever home?

Flippy, Mack and Rafael

These beautiful musk turtles are looking for a new home. As they have been together for so long, they would like to be rehomed together.

They are rather lively and love swimming about and basking under their lamp.

Flippy, Mack and Rafael would be best placed with experienced owners who have a good knowledge and understanding of this species.

Could you give these wee guys a new place to live?

Douglas

Lovely Douglas is one/two-year-old black and white male.

He came in to the centre as a stray. He is a a very loving cat who loves to roll about your feet and enjoys a good pet, however he can also sometimes be a little feisty therefore he would need an owner who has experience with cats.

In keeping with his name, Douglas would be best placed in a home without any dogs, as well as cats.

He would prefer to be with adults and have access to the outdoors so he can go exploring.

Could you give this gorgeous young cat a new home?

Dizzy and Buffalo

These handsome boys would also like to rehomed together after sharing so much time together.

Both boys are young, extremely shy and would benefit from an experienced guinea pig home where they can benefit from further handling and socialisation.

They love snuggling together in their hide and enjoy a diet of regular fresh hay, vegetables rich in vitamin C and guinea pig pellets daily.

Are you the person these guinea pigs have been waiting for?

Cookie

Cookie is a friendly, inquisitive and mischievous boy.

He could potentially be housed with other rabbits, as well as a home with children.

He also came to the centre's care as a stray and was never reclaimed.

Cookie likes to climb and jump and would love a new home with a family that has the time and knowledge to care for him.

We love Cookie.

Ozzy

Last, but certainly not least, we have good boy Ozzy.

Ozzy is a black, male lurcher between seven and eight months old.

He is a wonderful boy with a very loving and playful personality. He likes a wee cuddle and pet, as well as playing with his toys and running after balls.

Again, Ozzy would be best suited in a home where his new owner(s) can give him plenty of exercise.

Ozzy has been housed with another dog before, therefore could potentially be homed with another dog pending successful introductions. He also may be able to live with children, but not cats.

Could you give Ozzy his forever home?

Scottish SPCA Ayshire and South West Scotland centre manager, Marion Hainey, said: “When more animals are ready to be rehomed they will be added to our website, and you can apply directly there.

"If anyone is not able to do this they are welcome to come along to the centre Friday to Monday between 1.30 and 3.30pm where a member of staff will be able to help you complete the application form.

"If you would like to make an appointment for this, please call 03000 999 999.”

If you have fallen in love with any of the gorgeous animals above, you can find more information on the SSPCA Ayrshire and South West Scotland website.
