Wellington School in Ayr has been named as one of the finalists in this year’s British Heart Foundation’s Heart Hero Awards, with the school nominated in the Innovative Fundraiser Category. The winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony in September.

Through various fundraising efforts and events, mixed in with the challenges of homes schooling, staff and pupils at the school raised a staggering £35,829.64

“We are so grateful to all the staff and pupils at Wellington and the wider school community for their incredible support. To have raised so much money for life saving research into heart and circulatory diseases – especially during such a challenging year – is truly inspiring.

“Later this month, we will be celebrating our 60th birthday. Over the past six decades, the BHF has been instrumental in countless life-saving discoveries. Our research contributed to the first UK heart transplant, the development of pacemakers, the use of clot busting drugs to treat heart attacks, and the rollout of genetic testing for inherited heart conditions. Research that is only made possible thanks to wonderful supporters like Wellington School and we cannot thank them enough.”
