Ayrshire Cancer Support is looking for DIY fundraisers to step up and get creative to help the charity.

With a fundraising focus on doing it yourself, the charity is asking individuals to create their own DIY events in aid of Ayrshire Cancer Support and help raise vital funds.

Previous such events have included a golf-a-thon from Kerr Girvan and McConnell’s Pharmacy raising money through their annual Irvine Valley walk.

The vast majority of the charity’s fundraising efforts have been, and still are, cancelled due to restrictions, meaning they are even more reliant on people helping them out by any creative way they can.

Fundraising Manager, Martin Quigley commented: “With the majority of Ayrshire Cancer Support’s 2021 fundraising events cancelled due to COVID-19 it’s had a devastating effect on our community income.

“We need our community to help us raise urgently needed funds so that we can continue to help thousands of local people affected by cancer. We continue to support our participants through our free, 24-page fundraising pack, which is packed full of fun ideas, hints and tips to help you become a fantastic fundraiser.

“We are always in awe at the amount of hard work that goes into fundraising from our supporters in the community – we support cancer patients and families and we wouldn’t be able to do this without the generously of our supporters. We need your support now more than ever - help us raise funds to help cancer patients and their families reach the services they desperately need.”

The recent efforts of the golf-a-thon and Irvine valley have been invaluable for the charity.

Martin continued: “Huge thanks to golfing fundraising hero and volunteer driver Kerr Girvan, who completed an incredible Golf-a-thon fundraising challenge and raised a fantastic £2,500 for us! Kerr managed to play 8 golf courses in South Ayrshire which was 144 holes in total in only 48 hours! Despite some challenging weather conditions at times Kerr managed to complete his epic challenge and documented his adventures throughout on social media which was inspiring to watch.

“Also a huge thanks to staff at McConnell’s pharmacy who raised a fantastic £2,655 by taking part in their annual Irvine Valley walk.

“As well as this, Dean Pharmacy also got in touch to make a donation of £2,400 to match their efforts and bring the total raised to £5000.”
