With the 1st XI's game being called off due to weather, all eyes were on the Ayr Cricket Club’s second XI game at home to Victoria.

The Victoria skipper had no hesitation in batting first in the light drizzle after winning the toss and the opening batsmen made a quick start, helped by a couple of drops in the opening over.

Their innings were wrapped up by Qasim’s wicket, which saw nine man Victoria finish on 310 all out in 44 overs.

The hosts replied strongly, with Richard Borland hitting a career best 148, Callum Henderson 48 and Steve Baker and Ivan Craig seeing the second XI through with 32 and 34 not out.

The record books show that this was the highest ever run chase by an Ayr team beating the previous 291 set in 2003 against Aberdeenshire.

The second team ended 313-4 to win by six wickets which means they now sit top of the league overtaking their opponents in the Western District Cricket Union (WDCU) second division.

This week sees the first X1 travel to Paisley to take on Kelburne, the only other team with a 100 per cent record in the 1st Division,. The second XI face GHK.
