Vets across Ayrshire are reminding pet owners about the dangers of the heat to their furry friends.

Temperatures across the region are set to reach highs of around 23 or 24 degrees.

Owners are being advised to keep their pets away from direct sunlight if possible, keep them hydrated and to seek advice if they believe their pet is becoming unwell because of the heat.

Crossriggs Veterinary Clinic in Cumnock posted on Facebook to say: "It’s really hot this week - please remember to look after your pets and keep them cool"

Ivybank Vets, which runs three clinics in Irvine, Kilwinning and West Kilbride said: "If your pet is panting quite heavily or appears uneasy on their feet, or is acting strange in any way, it's always safer to advice and get it checked out.

"Try not to cool your pet down too quickly and the most obvious piece of advice is to not walk your dogs in the middle of the day when it's the warmest".
