AN IRVINE trombone player has been praised after winning a top brass band competition.

Trombone player and Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band conductor Lewis Bettles won The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Brass Governors competition this month.

He will also receive the George Reynolds Development Bursary towards his musical studies.

A spokesperson for The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland said: “Congratulations to RCS trombone player Lewis Bettles who is this year’s Brass Governors competition winner and recipient of the George Reynolds Development Bursary.

Congratulations also to trombone student Alex Barker who was highly commended.
