Ayrshire College has appointed a new Mental Health Liaison Officer to provide support across all of its campuses.

Michelle Morton takes up the role after working at HM Prison Kilmarnock and with prior experience of working in nursing homes.

Michelle is the third Mental Health Liaison Officer to be appointed at Ayrshire College, and replaces Hugh Dykes in the role. She will work with Ayrshire College until mid-2023.

On her appointment, Michelle said: “I am looking forward to moving forward with the role, and despite the challenges of having to deliver workshops, support and guidance digitally across all three campuses, I will look to provide as much support to college staff as I can within the restrictions that we are bound by now.

“It has been an incredibly difficult time for society, us as individuals and not forgetting our student population, who have had to very quickly adapt to a new way of blended or remote learning. This is on top of the more common difficulties students may experience whilst studying, and this will continue to be a main priority for myself in the coming months. I’ve started preparations for Mental Health Awareness Week in May, and I look forward to helping students and providing guidance in any way I can.”
