Mobile testing units for coronavirus are set to operate in different South Ayrshire areas on a rolling basis for an undetermined length of time, say health chiefs.

The COVID-19 testing units for symptomatic people will be situated in Ayr, Ballantrae, Coylton, Girvan, Maybole and Tarbolton for the foreseeable future.

Mobile testing sites have popped up on an ad-hoc basis at various locations throughout the pandemic, as and when cases flared, to help stop the spread of an outbreak.

The centres will operate on a rolling programme from Monday, April 5 until further notice, following this weekly rota:

  • Monday - Quay Zone Car Park, Knockcushan Street, Girvan
  • Tuesday - John Pollock Centre Car Park, Mainholm Road, Ayr
  • Wednesday - Tarbolton Community Centre Car Park, Montgomerie Road, Tarbolton
  • Thursday - Coylton Activity Centre Car Park, Hole Road, Coylton
  • Friday - Ballantrae Shorefront Car Park, Foreland, Ballantrae
  • Saturday - Carrick Academy Car Park, Kirkoswald Road, Maybole
  • Sunday - Queen Margaret Academy Bus Parking Area fronting the school, Dalmellington Road, Ayr

Each site will open from 10am until 6pm.

The purpose of the testing units are to provide a location where local people, especially those without cars, can get tested if they are showing symptoms and fear they have the virus.

Tests must be booked in advance at: https://www.nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or by calling 0800 028 2816.

Those going for a test are being told they must not travel via public transport and must follow all public health guidance.
