Maybole’s Kayleigh Haggo has been announced as a finalist in this year’s Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards in recognition of her incredible achievements.

Kayleigh has been announced as a finalist in the Sport category in light of her remarkable sporting career.

The 22-year-old is a member of the GB Para running team, boasting the title of four times world record holder and World Champion. The sportswoman also took home a gold medal at the Dubai 2019 World Para Athletics Championship.

Despite being diagnosed with a form of cerebral palsy that affects her balance and motor skills, Kayleigh has always had her sights set on becoming a professional athlete. She has set a total of 13 world records and four national age group records in swimming, race running and club throw sports over the past decade.

Outside of her sporting commitments, Kayleigh leads Inspire South Ayrshire, a project designed to increase opportunities for those with a disability or additional support needs by enabling them to take part in sport and physical activities. She has also recently launched a race running and wheelchair racing club in Girvan.

On her magnificent achievement, Kayleigh said: "I can't believe I've been chosen as a finalist for the Sport category. Being able to raise awareness and show other young people with disabilities that we can achieve anything is so important!

"I love being able to support young people like me and I hope this nomination will help to inspire them to go for their dreams too".

This year’s Sunday Mail Young Scot Award winners will be announced during a live online ceremony on April 22.

The finalists join a prestigious roll call of previous recipients including Sir Andy Murray, Olympian Laura Muir, and top vlogger Jamie Genevieve.
