West Scotland MSP Jamie Greene has hailed the removal of long-standing tariffs on Scotch Whisky which will benefit producers on the Isle of Arran.

Research by the Scotch Whisky Association research shows that the tariffs cost the industry more than £500million in lost business.

“Mr Greene said: “The removal of these tariffs is a major step forward for Arran’s whisky producers who make a world-class product.

The industry was previously punished for a disagreement between the US and the EU but as we are no longer an EU member we have been able to

sidestep this and make a deal that suits our best interests. The US is the biggest buyer of scotch and I am hopeful that this will help Arran’s distilleries have an even brighter future.”
