Ayr Academy’s LGBTQ+ group have gone above and beyond with their challenge of travelling the virtual distance from Ayr to Amsterdam.
The group aimed to complete the 610-mile distance throughout February, ending on Purple Friday.
In total, the group completed 991 miles and surpassed the target of reaching the Homomonument in the Dutch capital.
Amazingly, they managed to reach The ‘Memorial to Gay and Lesbian Victims of National Socialism’ in Cologne, Germany.

Miss Robson, who runs Ayr Academy’s LGBTQ+ group, is keen to ensure that the spotlight continues to shine on this subject and said: “The committee and I are certainly keen to bring more awareness within the school regarding issues of homophobic language and bullying.
“We are regularly in contact with each other digitally and have some ideas for members of the committee taking larger leadership roles to run
lessons or workshops to younger pupils but of course, this will all depend on when lockdown restrictions are eased or lifted”.
Senior pupil of the committee, Amy Jones said this week: “As a member of ASH, I am extremely proud to have had the opportunity to help set up the challenge and take par.
“Everyone in the group has done amazingly”.
