Plans have been lodged for a new seafront restaurant in place of an old toilet block in Troon.

Dorothy Birks, who runs the popular Kirkmichael Arms, Maybole, has applied to South Ayrshire Council for planning permission to build a diner and a car park on Troon’s North Shore Road.

A surfers’ wet room, takeaway service, ice-cream kiosk and a restaurant form part of the proposals for the Barassie coastline.

Mrs Birks, who has lived in Troon for more than 20 years, said in a statement: “We feel really passionate about what we hope to achieve at Barassie. We would like to offer a bit of something for everyone, and have put a lot of thought into the proposed project.

“At present there is nowhere for local people to visit and have a nice meal without having to drive.

"We feel this project would be really great for tourism, lift the whole area and provide local employment.”

No decision has been made yet on the application, which was submitted again recently following approval five years ago.

Troon councillor Philip Saxton said: “It would be positive for the people of Troon. It would also be good for visitors as there is nothing on the North Shore.”
