Police are appealing for information after a report of a 14-year-old girl being sexually assaulted in woods in Ayr at the weekend.

The incident took place on the evening of Saturday, February 6, when between 5pm and 6.30pm, the 14-year-old girl was with her friends in Castlehill Woods, Ayr.

The girl walked off to another area of the woods when she was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her.

The man is described as white, aged in his late teens to early 20s, around 5ft 9ins in height and of slim build with a prominent nose and short red hair.

He was wearing a blue jacket, white trousers and black leather gloves.

Detective Inspector Jennifer McCulloch said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to identify and trace the man responsible for this assault. We have been carrying out enquiries in the area and officers are gathering and checking CCTV footage to find out more information

“I would urge anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or who was in the area and may have any detail that will assist our investigation.”

"Additional patrols will be provided in the area as I understand the concerns that members of the public may have following an incident like this."
