NHS Ayrshire & Arran has confirmed that contact tracing is underway at a workplace in South Ayrshire.

It is understood that the business concerned is GE Caledonian, at Prestwick Aerospace.

Lynne McNiven, Joint Director of Public Health at NHS Ayrshire and Arran confirmed that NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is conducting a contact tracing exercise within a local workplace in South Ayrshire.

She said: "A number of individuals have been contacted by the Test and Protect team and told to self-isolate at home for 10 days.

"All relevant Public Health measures are in place and our Public Health Team is working with South Ayrshire Environmental Health Officers to manage and monitor the situation.

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality it is not possible to release any further information at this time".

A spokesperson for GE Caledonian said: "GE Aviation’s number one priority is always the health and safety of our employees, but for privacy reasons we do not comment on the specific conditions of any employees.

"We have been working and speaking with all the relevant local authorities and public health bodies since the beginning of the pandemic.

"We continue to take all appropriate actions we can to continue to prioritise everyone’s safety".
