A boy had to be rushed to hospital after being struck by a train in Prestwick.
Emergency services responded to the incident just after 7pm this evening [Saturday] with the youngster's injuries described as serious.
Police believe the incident to be an accident, adding his parents have been informed.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "BTP Officers were called to Prestwick Town Railway Station, South Ayrshire, just after 7.20pm this evening [January 23], after reports of a 12-year-old boy being struck by a train. Colleagues from Police Scotland also attended.
"The ambulance service is in the process of transporting the young man to hospital. His injuries are believed to be serious.
"The incident is currently being treated as an accident.
"The boy’s parents have been informed and are on their way to the hospital."
