A STRETCH of the A77 is set to shut overnight for a period of one week, beginning Wednesday, January 13.

The road closure, in effect from 8pm until 6am from the Wednesday until 6am on Thursday, January 21, is being enforced because of maintenance work being carried out by Amey to improve the condition of the carriageway.

The works, which Amey say will “reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future”, will also mean that the road is closed for the entirety of the weekend, from 8pm on Friday, January 15 until 6am on Monday, January 18.

The portion of road affected runs from the Cassillis Hotel in Maybole to Maybole North Gateway.

Amey advise that the following diversionary route will be in place: “Northbound traffic will leave the A77 at Turnberry to join the A719 and will travel along Greenfield Avenue, on to the B7024. From here, vehicles will continue on Murdochs Lone and Doonholm Road to re-join the northbound A77

“Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.”

They add that “all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.”
