A WOMAN claimed she was the victim of a sex attack by a man she learned was a police officer.

The 53-year-old said she was groped by a man named Kevin at a party in a property in Maybole, South Ayrshire between January 1 1994 and December 31 1994.

Kevin McKeown is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow accused of indecently assaulting the woman.

The 55-year-old is also accused of raping a woman while she was asleep at a separate property in Maybole between 31 January 1997 and July 1 1997.

The court heard today from the woman who claims she was indecent assaulted.

Jurors were told she fell asleep at a friend’s house party after a night out.

She said: “I woke up to someone groping me and touching where he should not have."

The woman recalled pushing the man away and punching him a couple of times on the face.

Prosecutor Greg Farrell asked if she knew who the man was and she replied: “I knew him only as Kevin.”

Mr Farrell then asked why she punched Kevin.

She said: “He was putting his hands where they should not have been.”

The woman added that she didn’t report the matter to the police.

She said: “I did not know who Kevin was and I did not know he was a police officer or anything until my friend told me after - I never thought.

“I hit him as in those days you handled yourself with your fists.”

She then stated she did not speak to the police until she met the alleged rape victim.

The witness recalled: “I went to her house and things from the past were coming back, things I knew nothing about - she said she had been raped.

“I said could it have been Kevin and she said: 'How do you know that?'

"I found out it was the same man - it happened so quickly.”

McKeown, also of Maybole, denies the charges.

The trial, before Judge John McCormick, continues.
