North Ayrshire residents have been met with huge queues at recycling centres across the local authority.
Images show roads blocked by cars waiting to enter refuse plants in Kilbirnie and Irvine.
The queue for the Bartonholm Recycling Centre stretched along the B779 past the Bartonholm Gardens development.
One resident said they waited an hour and 45 minutes to get in.
People waiting in line for the Kilbirnie plant found themselves joining near the Fire Station on Paddockholm Road.
Lee Wiinyard said: "Folk obviously have plenty stuff to dispose of after [Christmas], I suppose it would just end up getting fly tipped if [they] can't dump it decently."
North Ayrshire recycling centres have been closed from Friday, December 25, until Monday, December 28, and close again this Friday, January 1, until Monday, January 4.
North Ayrshire has asked those queueing to turn off their engines and to remain inside their vehicles.

Any chance of some queue management ? Bit unfair on the residents of Bartonholm to have to deal with all the traffic and extra emissions from idling engines ! pic.twitter.com/pYSxJVkhfr
